Samy San explores the world of childhood and consumption through images of toys. He transforms salvaged or mismatched elements into small colourful sculptures. Each one gives life to a character whose story we like to imagine: sometimes from a science fiction novel, sometimes from a 90s cartoon, often travelling from one part of the so-called mainstream culture to another. But not only that, our pleasure of recognition also associates these works with historical references such as Picasso's bulls. These sculptures become the vehicle for a reflexive reverie whose horizon goes beyond conventional categories and the restrictions of habitus to imagine new possibilities and new stories, just as in our childhood games.
